Clouds. Taken after a summer swim in 2008 at Volta pool in Georgetown. The black dot at the lower left had corner is a flying insect.
This was one of those lucky mid-week days in the summertime when it gets surprisingly peaceful in the middle of the city; - I suppose everyone is at work or school or away at summer camp. (Noise, crowds and free-floating aggression are not a big thing with me.)
I call this digital photograph, taken in July 2008:
There's a sad racial subtext to pool culture in the District. Prior to de-segregation all public pools in Washington would be busy in the summer. (Kids used to swim by the cherry trees at the Tidal Basin; this was banned after a desegregation order.) Today district pools are quiet places frequented by foreigners - mostly European - unfamiliar with American traditions.
