Rock Creek Park as seen from the Taft bridge. At the upper right is the minaret of the Islamic Mosque and Cultural Center (1957) , 2551 Massachusetts Avenue.
For the most part, modern-day Islam, like fundamentalist Christianity, is focused on God and not on buildings. Still, it's surprising to find this white limestone Moslem edifice on Massachusetts Avenue. It's the largest mosque in the United States.
