A Washington icon: the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. I took this shot sitting at the Tidal Basin looking back at the Washington Monument in April 2003.

I call this shot:

"Cherry Blossoms 2003".

This shot, taken at the same location and at the same time in the spring of 2003, is called:

"Cherry Blossoms - 2."

Below the banner of heaven

Blew the wind that heaven forgot

(Saturn devours his own)

[This is a dream composition. i.e.: a product of my unconscious psyche, this photo and Greek, Christian, Egyptian and pre-Egyptian mythology - specifically the deluge that wiped out a race of giants from the face of the earth.

However, the specific trigger in my mind for the phrase "below the banner of heaven" comes from the title "Under the banner of heaven: a story of violent faith" by John Krakauer (2003). "Saturn devours his own," was triggered in part by one of Goya's "black paintings" as recently profiled in the New York Times Magazine.]
