I was walking down Columbia Road (in the distance) as it crosses 16th Street in the summer of 2001 when I got this shot. Police like to prowl this intersection harassing Latin American immigrants. It's such a common occurrence that this artist and a spectator were oblivious to the arrests in progress.

I call this photograph:

"Art and Police."

This shot was taken further up Columbia Road as Columbia crosses Georgia Avenue; - "uptown" to old timers. This is a more "country" part of town - almost rural and almost all black. It's also the home of Howard University.

I was drawn to shooting this photograph by the large and lazy cumulus clouds hovering on the horizon.

I call this shot, taken in the summer of 2002:

"Georgia Avenue."
